How long star san

I have a bunch of sanke kegs and I'm considering making about 10 gallons of sanitizer and using an old keg coupler and CO2 to extract it as needed. I would only need to invest in a regulator. I'm planning on brewing minimum of 8 times this year. Bad idea? FWIW, this is what we do, and it seems to work quite well. If nothing else, it's a convenient way to rinse-out bottling gear and similar.

I drive my sanitizer at pretty low pressure and bleed the keg, but sometimes still end up with mild carbonation, which I find annoying bubbles in the line means sanitizer isn't touching that spot.

Easy work around, but I'm lazy. I stumbled onto this thread and it hit upon an issue I've been thinking about. I keep my starsan mixture in a 6 gal food grade bucket and I've noticed the bucket gets a bit sticky on the inside and hoses and beer line get foggy. Is this eating away at my buckets and hoses? If you use distilled water to dilute it I believe it will last longer. If you store Iodophor in an air-tight container it will keep indefinitely.

That's good to know about the PH test strips. I rarely test the pH of my Star San solutions. If they are still clear I trust them. Even if it gets a bit cloudy it still works. I prepare them with reverse osmosis water and think that it takes a lot of contamination to bring the pH up. Star San is safe for use on all surfaces, but use caution since it is an acid; contact with soft metals, rubber, and plastic should be kept to a minimum.

Star San is environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and will not harm septic systems. The results speak for them self. I have brewed and bottled a few beers. I have fermented and bottled a few wines. All using this product for sanitation.

It only takes a minute to sign up. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. It says that the sanitizer is good so long as the pH remains below 3.

Since I'm keeping it in a spray bottle with distilled water it shouldn't ever get above 3. I've heard people say they reuse it until it starts to turn cloudy, but I'm more apt to use the pH rule, since it lasts longer.

Of which the largest proportion is Phosphoric Acid, with some other stabilizers and minor acids depending on the make. The factor at which you dilute it, if you add too much water it looses its acidity and will not be effective. Case in point. It will stay as potent as the day you made it given 1 and 2 and no other outside dilution takes place. As opposed to Perisan, Starsan contains no peroxide component. This gives it a much longer shelf life.

Keep it in an airtight container in a dark cupboard and it will probably last indefinitely. As the manual says, when in doubt check the pH.
