Based on what I saw on set , that doesn't surprise me. I really believe the third installment is going to be the best one yet, especially with the addition of Mel Gibson as the baddie.
Also, while PG could mean we might not see arms and limbs getting blown apart, it will allow for a younger generation to watch some of the most ass-kicking action heroes ever to grace the screen. Hit the jump for more. From what Dave said last week :. Throw in unimpressive action sequences and this film, as I explained, didn't have much going for it. The weak marketing didn't help either, and unfortunately for everyone, the casting additions of Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammer, Mel Gibson, and Wesley Snipes - despite being highlights of the film - couldn't save the project or expand the audience.
The good news is that Sylvester Stallone, the man spearheading the series, is paying attention and isn't planning on making the same mistakes again. So, things will be different in the next installment, potentially very different. And yes, there of course will be another installment. You might remember a few years back, us reporting on a more sci-fi themed fifth entry in the Rambo series.
That didn't go anywhere yet but a few years later, when The Expendables 2 was about to hit theaters, Stallone hinted that they could do something "ambitious" and enter another genre, possibly sci-fi , with the third entry. Eugene B Super Reviewer. Jul 31, Pointless violence with poor political plausibility and the vague suggestion that in fact, the mission's entirely about a woman. It's a movie that might have worked were it intended to be an action-comedy, but as if Stallone could ever parody himself; as a true action movie, it fails to be even a bad 80s action movie. Horribly out-of-date, bloated, self-indulgent mess. Good to know Dolph Lundgren's not dead, though. Daniel P Super Reviewer. Oct 07, There are certainly worse ways to spend a couple of hours, though you'd probably have to be a ten year old boy recovering from a brain injury to get the undemanding most out of this throwback to the 80s Action Movie, where, lest you've forgotten, niceties like plot and character development never got in the way of a good explosion.
Stephen M Super Reviewer. Oct 03, I personally just believe that the characters become identifiable and their demise could put a dark cloud over an audience exiting the theatre after seeing the film. But that may change in 'Expendables 4'…". The Expendables 3 didn't do as well as the first two, so getting The Expendables 4 made will be more difficult.
