I have seen Oxi-Clean build-up in the pump of a FL machine. Remind you of concrete but not that hard. I am sure that some of the chemical add ins some of you use that are course texture does the same thing.
And Pink before you say it--this wasn't used only on cold water. I have added it Oxi to a jar and added hot water and mixed it up to add to a carpet steamer. You have to strain it to get the pieces that will not dissolve out, otherwise the steamer will stop up. I even heated the water in the micro so it would be extra hot but didnt want it boiling.
So Lars, just saying if you are scared of cheap liquid, I would sure watch some of this other stuff. Store bought. I seriously doubt that the majority of the people special order stuff like that besides here ha you know what I mean. Most do good to pick it up in stores--too busy-- plus majority of people aren't that interested in washing clothes. Sparky it wouldn't surprise me that the store bought oxi won't disolive completely with all the fillers, and of course I believe you I don't see any good reason to add more fillers to my wash than I have too.
By the way sparky I added pure sodium percarbonate in a glass, hot tap water stired a few seconds and it all disolved. Than I added oxiclean with hot water, hard chunks that fall to the bottom.
So it is the fillers. Perhaps during the wash cycle, they all dissolve, or they get stuck in the pump?! Not meaning to highjack the thread but I put some Borax in a jar of hot water and shook it real good and their was a layer of undissolved sediment in the bottom of the jar. Got be thinking twice about using it. What do you gurus think? It has already been given away, LOL. Not putting this in my Miele. Thankfully only used Tide Oxi or any other Oxi 1 time in my new machine!
Larsi, you will love pure sodium percarbonate, you will never go back to store bought boosters.. I would only use it on whites and lights, oxygen bleach expecially in a more pure form will fade darks.. I'm excited for you. Thanks Mama! Just ordered a 2lb. Can't wait to try it. Great reviews online, and of course from you :. I no longer own any store bought Oxi powder product. If it does not dissolve in over 2 hours in a glass with hot water I don't want this in my washer.
Appreciate the help. I honestly never even thought about the dissolvability of Oxi powder before! This Forum is awesome!!!!!! Larsi - how does the Miele Ultracolor perform for you. I noticed it's all alchohols and ethanol. Looks interesting. In the laundry Sodium Percarbonate is used to destain, deodorize, and whiten. It is very effective as a laundry presoak for heavily stained articles. Soak in hot water for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, then complete wash cycle.
For whitening old linens and yellowed window shears, deodorizing and cleaning tennis shoes, or to get rid of yellow armpit stains on shirts: soak in a solution containing 60g of Sodium Percarbonate in 5 litres of water for at least one hour, or overnight, then rinse.
It has enzymes, but no bleaching ingredients. It is VERY low sudsing. The scent is much stronger in the box, but sadly for me once dried I highly recommend it. When I finish the box, I will probably re-order I like that Cheer powder is OB free, but last time I tried it in my Electrolux is gave some major suds, and was hard to rinse. Now that my rinse levels are so much higher in the Miele, perhaps it will be easier to rinse.
Which Cheer. The cheer dark looks similar to UltraColor in composition but contains Percarbonate. Something I don't want for color. I would buy Cheer powder, now says "he" safe. Used borax for probably 20 years and never had a problem with dissolving. Use Oxiclean or Biz now and never have a problem with dissolving. It must be your machines that are the problem. I happen to know that my son who is a single parent has to buy cheaper products at times. Who I am to say anything about what someone else has to buy or chooses to buy.
I add one or two ounces at the most of sodium percarbonate, I know more can be used, but generally one ounce is all it takes. The sodium percarbonate in powder Cheer is a very small amount, just enough to kill the chlorine found in city water but not enough to effect the clothes. I would not worry about the sodium percarbonate in Cheer powder, that small amount won't fade the clothes, but it will kill the chlorine in city water.. I've been able to get away with using non-he Tide with Bleach Powder, and Original Tide Powder, before, just fine ; You just don't use a full scoop.
Before that, no washer had really been called High Efficiently. The first "HE" Detergent, wasn't even released until While, I might not recommend Xtra for heavily soiled clothes full of grease and so on, but I think for general laundry this detergent is a hidden little gem. It performs fairly well, it doesn't seem to fade your clothes and I had no allergies to it. I would say it would do the trick. It does seem a little thin and watery, and doesn't suds well but I don't think that affects the performance that much.
I say give it a try for yourself. It is not expensive and costs a whole lot less than Tide. Taylor says: Melissa, thanks for this Xtra detergent review. I used to think that lots of suds make a detergent work better, but I am coming to learn with research that this is not necessarily the case, so I wouldn't worry to much about the lack of suds. I'm glad you found something that will work for you at a good price. That can be very important. Does anyone else have an opinion about Xtra detergent? If so, you can share your Xtra laundry detergent review here. First, an SR reader stated: I don't like too much detergent perfume anyway. Personally, I like a laundry soap that comes out with no smell.
Between soap, softener , dryer sheets , and all the things like shampoo, etc. Further, another reader, Jill, shared this experience with the detergent. Jill said: I had an allergic reaction to this detergent.
I had terrible itching allergy to this detergent, and had to see a doctor. That seems like its too much perfume to me! I am especially interested in low cost detergent reviews, since I know money is very tight in this economy right now for many of us. Click here to post comments. Join in and write your own page! Michelle says: I bought Xtra liquid laundry detergent to try because it was much cheaper than my regular brand and I needed something to fit my budget this week. The Tropical Passion scent smells good but the scent did not stay on the clothes after washing and drying, just like another reviewer mentioned. I noticed when I was pouring the liquid in the measuring cup that it looked like mostly water. It did not have the creamy thicker look like my usual brand.
I did not have any stains on my clothes so I don't know how this detergent works for that but my guess is not very well. I think this product is mostly water and not a good cleaner. I would not recommend it and I would not buy it again.
Taylor says: Thanks Michelle for your Xtra laundry soap review. Has anyone else used this detergent, in any scent, and want to share a review?
You can also share laundry detergent reviews here , for any brand, telling me what you think about them, good or bad. Joan says: I purchased your product because of the price. Never again.
All have large white spots on them! There is no mention of Clorox on the bottle. I will tell others to be aware!
I feel I should be reimbursed for this damage, especially for the brand new ladies slacks! Taylor says: Joan, I am sorry you had this bad experience with Xtra detergent. I know it is never a good feeling to ruin perfectly good clothing. I would like you to know, however, that I am not in any was associated with the manufacturers but run an independent website which collects reviews of laundry detergents.
Therefore, you should definitely call the customer service number on the back of the bottle of detergent and share this problem you've experienced with the real manufacturers. They should know about this. On that note, have any other readers experienced similar problems with this detergent?
If so, please share your reviews and experience here , or read additional information about this brand. Here's his story: Eddie Hackett says: I just want to say I purchased a bottle of your Xtra laundry soap, purple bottle -- Tropical Passion, and it was the worse experience of my life. I washed a load of my work clothes and to my surprise they came from the washer all covered in white spots, like I poured bleach over them. I was not impressed.
Had to throw the whole lot of clothing out. Would I buy it again? I hope in a way the company sees this. The only thing I found it useful for after that was cleaning the toilet and scrubbing floors. Just a little peed off here in Prince Edward Island, Canada. As with many other reviewers, cost is what primarily drove me to try Xtra. I've found that, although it is suitable for cleaning my everyday work clothes when they are lightly soiled from general wear, it does not work well for stains or heavier-soiled clothing.
In those cases I not only had to use more Xtra, I also had to add some Clorox 2 , which pretty much eliminated the cost advantage. Although I have tried both the Calypso Fresh and Tropical Passion scents, I cannot fairly comment on how good the "after" scent is because I always use liquid fabric softener a necessity because I air-dry all of my laundry , which I've noticed tends to overpower or replace any lingering detergent scent on my laundry regardless of what type of detergent I use.
Ultimately though, I had to stop using Xtra after it started making my laundry fade. I switched to Tide Coldwater, and haven't turned back since. So, if you do decide to use Xtra, make sure you keep an eye on your laundry to make sure it doesn't start to fade. Also, you might want to keep a jug of Clorox 2 or similar on hand for more heavily-soiled laundry that the Xtra can't handle by itself.
Jared shared his review of Xtra detergent, including sharing a review of a version of this laundry soap I didn't realize that the company had before -- one with Oxiclean in it.
Well, now that I'm married and I've wisened up a bit as the "laundry guy" of the house, I've started trying the more expensive brands - Era , Gain , Cheer. I've bought XTRA a few times in between then when it is on sale. I have generally found XTRA to be a good value up front, but I'm reminded every time that my clothes don't smell nearly as nice compared to when I'm using Gain or Cheer.
The detergent is also more watery. And while you don't need much detergent for basic loads, soiled loads require more cleaning power. With XTRA, you are required to use a cap full or more, which results in less of a value. This takes the number of loads from 50 down to about This is how they make their money.
It comes in a blue bottle with a yellow cap. It smells great and is a very good detergent. Forget the Scent-sations, the smell doesn't last outside of the bottle. And the normal XTRA is just flowery water.
If you are going to go with a budget detergent, Era is the best value on the market! Taylor says: Thanks so much for your review of this detergent, as well as lower cost laundry detergents in general Jared. I think, in this economy, that people need more low cost laundry detergent options. Looking on Xtra's website though, I don't see this detergent listed. I don't know if that is because they've phased it out, or it is so new they haven't added it yet to the list.
Since you say you can't find it anymore I am guessing they've phased it out. An SR reader wrote in with their quick thoughts of this particular version: The only place I find Xtra with Oxiclean is at the Dollar General store.
So, it didn't save me any money by purchasing this detergent because I had to use a booster to get clothes clean and the grungy look from my families socks. Performance This brand just doesn't get clothing clean. I would only recommend it to those that don't get their clothing very dirty, like the elderly. It definitely will not work for those that have children, or those that get their clothes even remotely dirty.
It may also help to wash smaller loads in this detergent. If you do purchase this, I would suggest purchasing a stain remover as well because it doesn't do anything to tough stains like mustard, chocolate or grungy socks.
Scent The scent isn't lasting and doesn't stay on clothing through the wash cycle. I have previously and in the past purchased and used this Xtra Laundry Detergent and I was not to happy with it. I know I should not of expected much from such a cheap laundry detergent but I took my chances.
I first purchased this Xtra Laundry Detergent when I was on a tight budget so I can honestly say that this laundry detergent is very very affordable and is probably one of the cheapest on the market. Now it did do a half way decent job at cleaning my clothes but I felt it left them feeling stiff and not soft at all. My towels felt really rough after I washed them with this detergent.
The scent is pretty good but a little overpowering if you ask me. The scent is nice but it last too long and stays strong for too long. This product did work for me when I had to use it because it was all I could afford. I can honestly say I would not recommend this Xtra Laundry Detergent to any of my friends or family. This is definitely a product that is used only in the most desperate situations. I would absolutely not use it on my childrens clothes.
Great price, easy to find, smells good, and cleans well. I'm trying the mountain rain scent in the green bottle first and so far I am happy with its performance. My family doesn't normally have super dirty laundry, so I can't comment on how well it cleans and refreshes heavily soiled loads.
But it seems to get my family of five's clothes clean, bright, soft, and fresh. It also seems to rinse easily when I've handwashed too. I only need about half the recommended amount in my HE machine.
I love to try new detergents, especially ones that are inexpensive but work and smell great. I highly recommend to anyone, especially those you value saving money without compromising on performance.
I have been using Xtra Laundry Detergent in the "scentsations' scent for the past month or so. This detergent is very cheap, which is why I purchased it. This is not a high quality laundry detergent but it cleans your clothing. For your typical laundry needs this product will do perfectly fine. This product cleans your clothes without leaving any residue.
